PARRY SOUND, Ontario, December 18, 2010 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Member of Parliament (Parry Sound-Muskoka), today announced funding for a series entitled Sounds on the Bay.
Presented by the Town of Parry Sound through the Charles Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts, the 2011-2012 Sounds on the Bay will give Parry Sound residents and visitors the opportunity to experience arts and culture at this beautiful facility located on the shores of Georgian Bay. The series will feature mainly Canadian artists and one international performer. Artists will present a performance series featuring several disciplines, including dance, music and comedy.
"The Sounds on the Bay series is a vital part of the cultural life in Parry Sound," said Minister Moore. "Our Government is committed to supporting organizations engaged in enhancing Canada's arts and culture."
"Your commitment to excellence is evident in the success of the Sounds on the Bay," said Minister Clement. "This wonderful performance series promoting Canadian talent is essential to our community, our identity, and our economy."
"We are very pleased with the continued support from the Government of Canada and the Canada Arts Presentation Fund. This funding assists with programming costs associated with artists' fees and related costs for shows presented by the Stockey Centre," said Lynn Middaugh, Director of Economic Development and Leisure Services, Town of Parry Sound. "The support provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage allows the Town of Parry Sound to present quality entertainment, growing the cultural experience."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $30,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
