ST. JOHN'S, (NL) – December. 9, 2010 – The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, today announced an investment of $105,000 to assist the Film Producers Association of Newfoundland (PAN) market its films on the international stage.
"Our government's support will help PAN to promote its feature movies, short films and videos at international festivals and trade shows," said Minister Ashfield. "This investment supports the development of a Newfoundland and Labrador-based film industry and is a demonstration of our government's support for the contributions made by our cultural sector both to the economy and the quality of life in Newfoundland and Labrador and the Atlantic region."
During the 2010-2011 operating year, PAN will use the funding to attend several key international marketing events, including the Cannes Film Festival, the Banff World Television Festival, the Berlin Film Festival and the American Film Market.
"This funding will allow Newfoundland and Labrador filmmakers to access international markets around the world and will help us to improve our marketing expertise and readiness," said Mary Sexton, president of PAN. "We have a reputation of being able to create high quality products for Canadian and global marketplaces on a competitive basis, and we are excited about promoting our films in new markets."
PAN was founded in 1989 and has grown to include 33 companies involved in the development, production and marketing of feature films, television programs, documentaries, television commercials and industrial videos. Most recently PAN has enjoyed international acclaim for its films "Love and Savagery," "Crackie" and "Grown-up Movie Star." PAN was also involved in the production of the popular TV series "Republic of Doyle."

ACOA Minister Keith Ashfield today announced an investment of $105,000 to assist the Film Producers' Association of Newfoundland (PAN) market locally produced films on the international stage.
