Persons with disabilities have an important role to play in the development and well-being of their communities. Yet, they are amongst the most marginalized in society. In developing countries, persons with disabilities face significantly more difficult challenges in life.
Last March, Canada ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, underscoring the Government's commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.
Through CIDA, Canada helps to empower disabled persons to become self-reliant and fully integrated members of their communities.
On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Canadians can be proud of the Government's commitment to promoting the human rights of all persons, including those with disabilities, in Canada and abroad.
