Longueuil, Quebec, January 21, 2011 – The Canadian Space Agency's Earth Observation Applications Development Program awarded several contracts to companies across Canada. The main goal of the program is to promote the development of innovative applications that will maximize the utilization of Earth observation (EO) satellite data generated by CSA supported missions.
Contractors were selected through a Request for Proposals (RFP) and evaluated on their potential to further the utilization of the RADARSAT-2 data.The Canadian Space Agency sought bids specifically related to the following objectives:
- To improve, increase and optimize the utilization of the RADARSAT-2 data allocation to meet the application needs of Government of Canada user Organizations;
- To develop innovative methods, systems, products and/or services that address application needs with long term potential to increase the utilization of the RADARSAT-2 data allocation;
- To demonstrate and assess the potential of the methods, systems, products and/or services within the context of the applications, and to recommend the next steps for them to become operational.
RADARSAT-2 imagery will be made available to the selected contractors for their development purposes.
Launched in December 2007, RADARSAT-2 is a commercial radar satellite offering powerful technical advancements that enhances marine surveillance, ice monitoring, disaster management, environmental monitoring, resource management and mapping in Canada and around the world.
