CALGARY, Alberta, January 29, 2011 - Minister Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for the Status of Women, today acknowledged the athletic achievements of mogul skier and Olympian Jennifer Heil.
"It is an honour for me to be here today to cheer on Jennifer Heil, an exceptional athlete, a great Albertan and a Canadian icon," Minister Ambrose said, "Her performances at the Salt Lake City, Turin and Vancouver Olympic Games have captured the hearts and minds of Canadians, and inspired a generation."
Ms. Heil, who skied her final World Cup Moguls race in Canada today at Canada Olympic Park, is one of many of the country's inspiring female athletes.
Born and raised in Spruce Grove, Alberta, Heil's skiing career has spanned over a decade. She represented Canada three times at the Olympic Games, bringing home a respectable fourth place finish in her first Olympics in 2002, a gold from Turin 2006 and a silver from Vancouver 2010..
"Just as she was once a child inspired by Canada's athletes at the Calgary Olympic Games, she has carried that same torch as a role model for Canadian boys and girls today," Minister Ambrose continued, "Her dedication and determination encourage all young Canadians to aspire to become better athletes and proud Canadians."
