Saint-Pascal, Quebec, January 12, 2011 - Youth from the Lower St. Lawrence will have the opportunity to discover different aspects of the business world, thanks to support from the Government of Canada for the planning, organization and coordination of a business competition. Mr. Bernard Généreux, Member of Parliament for Montagny-L'Islet-Kamouraska-Rivère-du-Loup, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.
"In today's environment, it is more important than ever that young Canadians have the skills and information they need to participate and succeed in the job market," said Mr. Généreux. "Our government is proud to support activities like this one, which encourages youth to develop their entrepreneurship and contribute to their school and the local economy."
With assistance from the federal Youth Awareness program, Projektion 16-35 is helping to organize the 2011 Quebec Entrepreneurship Contest for youth from the Lower St. Lawrence. Winners will be chosen based on various entrepreneurial criteria, such as market analysis and marketing plans.
Projektion 16-35 will receive over $10, 000 in federal Youth Awareness funding to support its project.
The Youth Awareness program, funded under Employment Insurance Part II, provides financial assistance for projects designed to address specific labour market requirements facing communities, and aims to promote youth as the workforce of the future among recipients, employers, communities and young Canadians.
