The Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor), on behalf of the Government of Canada, will invest a total of $306,670 in three projects which will stimulate and diversify Yukon's tourism industry.
Carcross Tagish Development Corporation – Cultural Industries Carving Project
CanNor funding: $96,000
The funding will be used to purchase six totem poles carved by local Carcross Tagish First Nation carvers. The totem poles will be used to create awareness of Carcross' culture and heritage while promoting the First Nation community as a tourism destination.
Klondike Visitors Association – E-Tourism Central Sales and Reservation System
Pilot Project
CanNor Funding: $135,670 over three years
The Klondike Visitors Association is using the CanNor funding for a leading edge e-tourism pilot project to increase tourism in Dawson City. The project involves a central reservation system where consumers can create and book their own customized packages of accommodations, tours, dining and other events. The focus of the project is on product development and improved marketing and promotion.
MacBride Museum - Colorful Five Percent display
CanNor funding: $75,000
The “Colourful Five Percent” is a well-known Yukon theme highlighting the vast array of characters that have a significant impact in shaping the heritage and culture of Yukon.
The name most synonymous with the ‘Colourful Five Percent' is Jim Robb, a Yukon artist who has been gathering, recording and promoting Yukon history since 1960 and who was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2003. Museum staff will work with Mr. Robb to organize and display his personal collection of Yukon history and artifacts.

These investments are made possible through CanNor's Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) program, which focuses on long-term economic growth, economic diversification and capacity building in all three territories.
SINED is one of several economic development programs within CanNor which is responsible for coordinating and delivering Canada's economic development across the North, and for related policy development, research and advocacy.
