REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN, FEBRUARY 8, 2011- Ray Boughen, Member of Parliament for Palliser, announced today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, that people with disabilities will get work experience through the Government of Canada's support for an employment project.
"In today's environment, it is more important than ever that all Canadians have the skills they need to participate and succeed in the job market," said Mr. Boughen. "By supporting this project, our government is helping Canadians with disabilities maximize their potential and independence."
With assistance from the federal Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities, the Learning Disabilities Association will help 14 individuals with disabilities gain the skills needed to find lasting employment or become self-employed.
The participants will take part in employability workshops that focus on topics such as personal management and teamwork. The participants will also gain hands-on experience through job placements designed to suit their abilities.
The Learning Disabilities Association will receive over $91,000 through the Work Experience component of the Opportunities Fund.

The Work Experience component of the Opportunities Fund is designed to help Canadians with disabilities who have little or no work experience, and who are not eligible for Employment Insurance benefits.
