Residents of the Clarenville area and tourists and visitors alike will benefit from recreational infrastructure investments being made by the Government of Canada in the White Hills Ski Resort, the Clarenville Events Centre and the Clarenville Yacht Club. The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, made the announcement in Clarenville today.
"Across Canada, our Government's top priority is the economy," said Minister Ashfield. "Our investments in these projects in the Clarenville area are helping to grow the local economy, sustain and create jobs and nurture a vibrant and diverse community in which to live, work and grow."
Funding assistance provided by the federal government will help the Alpine Development Alliance Corporation (ADAC) undertake important upgrades to its snowmaking equipment at the White Hills Ski Resort. This will involve the installation of new, more energy efficient, snow-making towers. The ADAC will also make improvements to the existing ski lift and cable to enhance service for clients.
The town of Clarenville will undertake improvements to the Clarenville Events Centre which serves as a multi-use facility and includes an arena, a walking/running track, an arts theatre and meeting facilities. The Centre will purchase new equipment and make infrastructure enhancements that support the Centre's growth as a recreational and cultural hub for the community.
The Clarenville Yacht Club project involves upgrades to the existing recreational marina and boat basin. The project will include the construction of a breakwater, reconfiguration of the existing floating docks, a new finger pier, the addition of water, sewer and electrical services as well as renovations to the existing administration building.
The Government of Canada investments in all three projects is provided through ACOA's Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) which focuses on investments that lead to long-term employment and economic capacity building in rural communities. The investments include $949,710 to assist the Alpine Development Alliance Corporation undertake improvements to the White Hills Ski Resort; $572,972 to support upgrades to the Town of Clarenville's Events Centre and $120,535 to help the Clarenville Yacht Club make important improvements to the marina and boat basin.
