GUELPH, Ontario, February 17, 2011 - The Guelph and District Multicultural Festival will once again celebrate the diverse arts and culture of its community, thanks to support from the Government of Canada. The funding was announced today by the Honourable Michael Chong, Member of Parliament (Wellington-Halton Hills), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
The Festival, presented by the Guelph and District Multicultural Festival Inc., will take place from June 10 to 12, 2011, at Guelph Riverside Park. The free festival, now in its 25th year, will feature a number of cultural activities including traditional cultural presentations and musical, dance, and theatrical performances by local artists and groups.
"Our Government is proud to support the Guelph and District Multicultural Festival and its tradition of celebrating community and culture," said Minister Moore. "These events encourage residents to get involved in their community and enrich the lives of everyone involved."
"Congratulations to the organizers on 25 years of continued success," said Mr. Chong. "This annual event provides the Guelph community with an opportunity to showcase its artists and the diversity of its local talent."
"The Guelph and District Multicultural Festival appreciates the support of the Government of Canada for our 25th anniversary celebrations," said Delfino Callegari, President of the organization. "This funding is a stabilizing force allowing us to support local cultural performers and continue to bring this free cultural celebration to our region."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $28,000 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
