Students with Memorial University's Faculty of Business Administration will have the opportunity to network with business experts and students from around the world during the Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) Case Competition thanks to support from the Government of Canada.
The announcement was made today by the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway.
"The economy is our Government's top priority and we are pleased to support Memorial University as it hosts this unique competition because our business students represent a national strategic resource whose capacity to adapt and respond effectively to a dynamic entrepreneurial environment is critical to the long-term competitiveness and success of our Canadian companies," said Minister Ashfield. "This competition provides these young Canadians with the opportunity to exchange ideas with business experts, students and faculty from around the world and take away valuable knowledge and insights on which to build their contribution to our local, regional and national economy."."
The NIBS Case Competition is one of the oldest and most respected international case competitions for business students at the undergraduate level. Students from up to 10 international business schools will participate in the weeklong event in St. John's from February 19-26, 2011. The event is intended to create a more global perspective in the business leaders of the future.
"We are very appreciative to ACOA for the investment in the NIBS Case Competition," said Peggy Coady, Accounting Professor and NIBS Competition Organizer. "This competition helps undergraduate business students develop critical business skills using global business case studies. The student participants will be exposed to different global perspectives on a variety of business issues during the competition. It is a tremendous learning experience for everyone."
The Government of Canada is supporting the NIBS competition with a contribution of $25,000. This support is being provided through ACOA's Atlantic Investment Partnership.
