Toronto, February 18, 2011 — MP Bob Dechert, Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Erindale, today announced financial support for Black History Month 2011 celebrations taking place at the Francophone Centre located in the Toronto Library. The theme of this event is “Ma culture, c’est ma joie de vivre en Ontario” (My culture: I feel fortunate to live in Ontario).
“By providing funding to festivals like this one, we help showcase the diversity of our country, and the talents of different communities within Canada,” said MP Dechert on behalf of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.
Kompa Zouk Ontario Inc. is receiving $15,000 for the event under Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s Inter-Action program.
“With this support from Inter-Action, events such as this one are able to celebrate unique communities while promoting integration of all Canadians,” said MP Dechert.
The festival, which will take place February 17 to 20, at the Francophone Centre at the Toronto Library, is open to the public. Activities will include food tasting, workshops, concerts and an art exhibition. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Please visit www.festivalkompazouktoronto.com for more information.
