Regina, February 18, 2011 - Senator Don Meredith today announced financial support for Black History Month celebrations taking place throughout Saskatchewan. In addition to educational symposiums held at local high schools, each of the locations will also host an evening of activities that will focus on the contributions of historical and current people of African heritage in Saskatchewan since the late 19th Century.
"By funding events like these, we help create opportunities for different cultural and faith communities to build bridges," said Senator Meredith on behalf of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.
The Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan is receiving $15,000 for the events under Citizenship and Immigration Canada's Inter-Action program.
"With this support from the Inter-Action program, events such as this one celebrate this community's diversity and promote integration of all Canadians," added Senator Meredith.
The event will be held in four Saskatchewan locations: Regina – February 20 & 22; Saskatoon – February 21-26; Swift Current – February 24; and Prince Albert – February 23 & 26, 2011. The activities are open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Please visit
