Revelstoke, British Columbia, February 4, 2011 - Jim Abbott, Member of Parliament for Kootenay-Columbia today announced financial support for the Carousel of Nations taking place at the Community Centre in Revelstoke, British Columbia.
"The Government of Canada is proud to deliver these funds to further community education about various cultural backgrounds," said MP Abbott on behalf of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.
The Revelstoke Community Child Care Society is receiving $7,700 for the event under Citizenship and Immigration Canada's Inter-Action program.
"With this support from the Inter-Action program, events such as this one celebrate this community's diversity and fosters intercultural understanding among Canadians," said MP Abbott.
The event will take place February 5, 2011 starting at 4:00 pm and is open to the public. It will include an arts and crafts component for children, on stage performances by different ethnic groups, no charge admissions to local museums, travel/slide show presentations from a variety of ethnic and cultural groups, as well as a dinner featuring foods from a variety of cultures.
