OTTAWA, February 14, 2011 - Works of non-fiction can teach us much about our world that we would otherwise never know. In Canada, we are fortunate to have many talented non-fiction authors who share their experiences and insights, as well as their passion for writing, with readers at home and abroad.
Today, the 10th Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction was awarded to Charles Foran for his book Mordecai: The Life & Times. Stevie Cameron, Ross King, George Sipos, and Merrily Weisbord were also honoured as finalists.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to this year's winner and finalists. Thank you for taking us beyond the places, people, and events of our own experience. I would also like to commend the Charles Taylor Foundation on its efforts both to recognize excellence among Canadian non-fiction writers and to help their works reach a broader audience.
