As part of a multilateral effort, Canadian aircraft C 130 landed in Malta at approximately 2:45 pm local Ottawa time. The aircraft evacuated 17 people, including one Canadian, from Tripoli, Libya.
The Harper Government's decision to deploy HMCS Charlottetown demonstrates the robustness of our emergency evacuation response and solidarity with our partners and allies.
With a crew of 240 sailors, the HMCS Charlottetown sailed from Halifax, Nova Scotia today and will arrive off the coast of Libya in six to seven days. Canada's evacuation efforts continue unabated in spite of growing volatility in Libya.
