Thanks to support provided by the federal government, the Atlantic Golf Organization will begin attracting golfers from the mid-Atlantic United States to golf courses throughout the Atlantic region.
“Our Government is pleased to partner with the Atlantic Golf Organization Inc. in an effort to attract new golf enthusiasts to Atlantic Canada and stimulate economic growth throughout the region,” said the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie. “This partnership creates a greater marketing opportunity for the Atlantic region as a whole, focusing on the mid-Atlantic United States.”
The Atlantic Golf Organization Inc. has been created with representatives from the four non-profit golf marketing bodies in the Atlantic Provinces – Golf Prince Edward Island, Golf Nova Scotia, New Brunswick Golf, and Golf Newfoundland and Labrador. The group’s main goal is to promote and market the golf product in Atlantic Canada and at the same time increase overall awareness of the region.
AGO Director Greg Hillier from Golf Newfoundland Labrador stated, “The implementation of this initiative has had a tremendous positive impact on the ability of the four provinces, to work together on a major initiative in a new and emerging marketplace, such as the mid USS. This would not have been possible if not for the support and contributions, both human and financial, from ACOA.”
The Government of Canada, through ACOA, has invested $88,500 to help with this initiative. Atlantic Golf Organization has invested an additional $61,500 to help attract golfers and visitors to Atlantic Canada.
Atlantic Golf Organization is building a working relationship with the golf associations in the mid-Atlantic United States to create direct contact with golfers in these areas. Atlantic Golf Organization will offer golfing packages, contests and promote events through the golf associations. They will also continue with media familiarization tours throughout the year. The media familiarization tours will be held in various locations throughout the Atlantic region which will result in a number of articles written by credible golf and travel writers.
