EDMONTON – Media are invited to attend the unveiling of Western Canada’s first Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN) virtual reality medical treatment system designated for patient use. The Courage in Motion (CIM) Centre, which houses the simulator, will be officially opened at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, thanks to a partnership between the Canadian Forces (CF) and Alberta Health Services.
The CAREN system will give patients, including injured CF personnel and civilians, highly specialized treatment for both physical and psychological injuries.
There will be demonstrations of the virtual reality simulator to give guests and members of the media a rare opportunity to see the system in operation. Patients will demonstrate three activities including a virtual reality balance maze, a boat course and target practice.
