OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will preside over an Order of Merit of the Police Forces investiture ceremony at Rideau Hall on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. Seven Officers and 36 Members will be invested in the Order.
This ceremony will mark the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces. “It is an honour to celebrate the exceptional careers of the men and women who serve with the Canadian Police Services,” said His Excellency, who is chancellor of the Order. “They go beyond the call of duty in situations that require them to do so, and I am pleased to pay tribute to their dedication as we celebrate the 10th anniversary investiture of this Order.”
This honour was created in 2000, to recognize conspicuous merit and exceptional service by members and employees of the Canadian police forces whose contributions extend beyond protection of the community. Three levels of membership with post-nominal letters reflect long-term, outstanding service: Commander (C.O.M.), Officer (O.O.M.) and Member (M.O.M.).
A media schedule for the investiture ceremony, the list of recipients and a backgrounder on the Order are attached.
