Ottawa – Today, the Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board of Canada and Minister responsible for FedNor, reminded Canadians that National Public Service Week is taking place from June 12 to 18, 2011. The annual celebration recognizes the important work of Canada’s public servants in departments and agencies across the country with events to celebrate the achievements and contributions of employees.
"The Public Service of Canada is a vital national institution that has a crucial role in positioning Canada for success in today’s global economy," said Minister Clement. "Their work contributes to the nation’s continued economic, social and cultural prosperity. I would like to wish all public service employees a great week of celebrations."
Since Parliament enacted the National Public Service Week: Serving Canadians Better Act in 1992, this event has celebrated employees who have shown excellence in serving Canadians while reflecting the values, ethics and priorities of the federal public service.
During the week, a ceremony will be held to honour the recipients of the 2011 Public Service Award of Excellence. The award recognizes public service employees—individuals and teams—who have made significant contributions to Canada and the public service through their work.
