OTTAWA, ONTARIO, June 25, 2011 — Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Labour Minister, announced that Bill C-6 entitled An Act to provide for the resumption and continuation of postal services, has been passed by the House of Commons. The Bill will restore mail service for Canadians and put an end to the work stoppage affecting Canada Post Corporation and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) – Urban Operations Unit.
“Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to complete our economic recovery,” said Minister Raitt. “There is clear evidence that this work stoppage is causing serious harm to small businesses and consumers across the country. We are acting to protect the country’s economy through our fair legislation that will get Canadians their mail.”
The Bill was passed in the House of Commons and will now be debated by the Senate.
