CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY
It is my pleasure to participate in the announcement of the highlights of the first Royal Tour overseas by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Sharon and I were delighted to represent Canadians at their wedding back in April. We both had the honour to be introduced to Their Royal Highnesses during which they expressed to us how they were genuinely looking forward to come and discover our country together, as a couple.
As they embark on this Royal Tour, they will have the unequal opportunity to visit communities across our wonderful country, and witness what Canada is becoming, as we move towards its 150th anniversary in 2017.
“Moving Forward Together” is indeed a well chosen theme for this tour. It is our opportunity to embark together on a journey with Their Royal Highnesses, who represents the future of the Crown in Canada, and to demonstrate our collective warmth and hospitality.
As we celebrate Aboriginal Day today, I know they will appreciate the rich culture and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis people and understand the common history we share.
I am convinced they will enjoy the wonderful landscapes and have memorable encounters with the many smart and caring people of this country.
Today, I would like to announce that the official welcoming ceremony of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Canada will be held at Rideau Hall on June 30th.
Starting at 1 p.m., all are invited on the grounds of Rideau Hall, the home of the people, to join Sharon and me in welcoming the Royal couple, who are expected to arrive at about 3 p.m.
We are especially pleased that Canada is the first country of the realm visited by the newlyweds. Let’s make them feel at home and show them how we can move forward together.
Thank you.
