On the decision by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) – Urban Operations Unit, to commence rolling strikes
OTTAWA, ONTARIO, June 3, 2011—Our Government is disappointed that the parties have so far been unable to reach an agreement and that the union has felt it necessary to begin strikes. We are concerned about the effect this will have on Canadians and Canadian businesses across the country.
We urge both parties to reach a negotiated agreement as soon as possible. The best solution is the one that the parties reach themselves.
Both parties have assured Canadians that important government mail such as Canada Pension Plan, Canada Child Tax Benefit, Old Age Security, and regular veterans’ benefits will still be delivered. Canadians should call 1-800-OCANADA for more information.
