Two Bay Bulls businesses got a boost today from Government of Canada investments totalling $1.2 million. The funding was announced by the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie, at an event in the town.
"The Government of Canada's top priority is economic growth and jobs for Canadians," said the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie, at an event in Bay Bulls today. "The completion of the Bay Bulls Properties' marine terminal and the purchase of a new tour boatfor O'Brien's Whale and Bird Tours support the future of a local company that is serving the province's growing energy sector and a small business responding to the growing demands of the eco-tourism market. These are investments that in turn benefit the economy of Bays Bulls and the surrounding area."
Bay Bulls Properties Ltd. will complete the final construction phase of its marine terminal in Bay Bulls thanks to an investment of $1,000,000 by the Government of Canada. The expansion of the docking facilities at the marine terminal will enable the company to more efficiently address the requirements of its current client base. It also provides sufficient capacity to attract business from the eastern Arctic and Greenland companies that will need shore-based services in support of their oil and gas exploration activities.
The tourism industry in Bay Bulls also received a significant boost from a $200,000 Government of Canada investment allowing O'Brien's Whale and Bird Tours to purchase a new tour boat that is replacing a vessel that was destroyed by fire in June 2010. The Government of Canada's investments in these two projects were provided as repayable loans through ACOA's Business Development Program (BDP).
