Milton, Ontario, July 19, 2011 —The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Minister of Labour, met today with representatives of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering to discuss emerging trends and challenges related to workplace health and safety and healthy work environments.
“I would like to applaud the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering for their work towards accident and injury prevention in the workplace,” said Minister Raitt. “Healthy work environments act as a catalyst to productivity and innovation. We can all work together to ensure that we have the model for fair, respectful and healthy workplaces that will make Canada strong and prosperous.”
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code, which covers industrial relations, health and safety, and employment standards. These laws apply to federally regulated workers and employers.
