Wetland Boardwalk will be a 'living classroom'
Curve Lake, Ontario, July 7, 2011 -- On behalf of the Honourable Peter Kent, Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Mr. Barry Devolin, Member of Parliament for Haliburton – Kawartha Lakes – Brock, today announced our participation in the opening of a new wetlands boardwalk at Curve Lake First Nation in Curve Lake, Ontario, in the Trent-Severn Waterway tourist area.
"I am pleased to announce our participation in the opening of this new boardwalk, a collaborative initiative between Parks Canada and Curve Lake First Nation," said Mr. Devolin. "Projects such as this help us fulfil our mandate to all Canadians."
Parks Canada and Curve Lake First Nation together proudly marked the official opening of the new wetlands boardwalk and accompanying interpretive signage which were developed to help convey the importance of natural resources and the need to co-exist in harmony with them.
"This collaboration has created an excellent opportunity for education about wetlands for students, residents and visitors alike," said Minister Kent. "Opportunities like this help to foster lasting understanding and appreciation for the values of wetlands and the environmental services they provide to us."
This boardwalk will be a 'living classroom' for students, residents and visitors to learn about wetlands and their importance to the environment, and discover the natural wonders found in this important natural resource. Parks Canada is committed to working with Aboriginal partners in developing real and inspiring experiences that foster education and understanding of the many natural treasures found in Canada and in our local communities, such as Curve Lake, along the Trent-Severn Waterway.
