The Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency will invest over $800,000 in the Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce for two projects that will help to stimulate and strengthen economic development in Yukon.
Yukon Business Development Program (YBDP)
CanNor Funding: $658,922 (over four years)
Government of Yukon: $100,000 (over three years)
This highly-successful program uses business advisory boards, mentoring and specialized coaching to bring promising Yukon businesses to the next level of success — to export their products and services nationally and internationally. This multi-year funding will enable the YBDP to continue to provide up to 20 selected companies each year with personalized business development assistance to help them reach their full market potential. Additionally, a specific focus of the YBDP over the next four years will centre on two key areas:
- Maximizing economic opportunities for Yukon First Nation communities, and
- Completing a YBDP manual to provide timely and accurate information about lessons learned and required information for participating companies.
Partnering for Success
CanNor funding: $142,500
The funding from this investment will be used to address and continue discussions around the recommendations from the 2010 Partnering for Success Economic Summit. The 2010 summit brought together business, industry, governments, First Nations and the non-governmental sectors to discuss current issues and actions to enhance the Yukon economy.
Over the past three years, Partnering for Success has facilitated a number of sector-specific meetings to identify issues and opportunities related to economic development and the growth of Yukon's private sector.
