Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, August 11, 2011—Local youth will have the opportunity to learn about career options thanks to support from the Government of Canada. Mr. Brad Trost, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon–Humboldt, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.
“In today’s environment, it is more important than ever that young Canadians have the skills and information they need to participate and succeed in the job market,” said Mr. Trost. “Our government is proud to support activities like this youth employment project that benefit both employers and youth.”
With assistance from the federal Youth Awareness program, the Saskatoon District Industry-Education Council will organize a number of activities, events and internships for youth that will provide them with job market information, career planning strategies and work experience. These opportunities for youth will showcase careers in sectors such as construction, health, and information technology.
Mr. Trost also attended a luncheon hosted by the Saskatoon District Industry-Education Council to celebrate the success of one of its other initiatives, the Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship Program.
The Saskatoon District Industry-Education Council will receive over $89,000 in federal Youth Awareness funding to support its latest youth employment project.
