The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) will partner with the Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association (NAIA) in supporting an Atlantic Canadian aquaculture trade mission to Trondheim, Norway, August 13- 20, 2011.
The Canadian delegation will participate in Aqua Nor 2011, the largest aquaculture trade show in Europe. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Peter Penashue, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queens Privy Council on behalf of the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and La Francophonie.
“This mission will provide Atlantic Canadian companies with exposure to some of the leading technological advances in cold water fish production and will present a great opportunity to advance the aquaculture industry in the region,” said Minister Penashue. “Aqua Nor provides the ideal opportunity for companies and research institutions to come together to discuss current developments in the fields of aquaculture technology, equipment, quality assurance, financing and other areas important to the aquaculture industry.”
Ten Atlantic Canadian aquaculture firms will participate in Aqua Nor. The Atlantic Canadian delegation will continue to develop strategic alliances in Europe and focus efforts within the aquaculture industry through trade development and technology transfer.
Mission components will include participation in workshops and seminars, networking opportunities and business-to- business meetings with key members of the international aquaculture industry. Additionally, NAIA will organize an industry-themed working tour for Atlantic Canadian aquaculture firms that will take place surrounding the trade mission, focused on technology and research development primarily associated with finfish production.
ACOA is supporting the trade mission with an investment of $163,000.

The trade mission will see representatives of 10 Atlantic Canadian aquaculture firms participate in Aqua Nor 2011, Europe’s largest aquaculture trade show. The mission will assist the Atlantic Canadian delegation to continue their efforts to develop strategic markets in Europe and focus efforts within the aquaculture industry through trade development and technology transfer.
