The development of the tourism industry in Labrador was given an important boost today with the announcement that the Government of Canada is investing $225,000 to help Destination Labrador Inc. implement a three year development plan. The funding was announced today by the Honourable Peter Penashue, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queens Privy Council, on behalf of the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie.
“The Government of Canada recognizes the link between tourism and economic development,” said Minister Penashue. “Increasing tourism in Labrador will create jobs and lead to economic growth, which are top priorities for our Government.

The marketing element of the management plan involves targeting four main markets, including fishing/hunting, outdoor exploring, cultural/Aboriginal touring and snowmobiling.
