Prime Minister Harper spoke this morning to British Prime Minister David Cameron. The two leaders focussed primarily on the situation in Libya, where Canada and the UK are both key members of the UN-mandated, NATO-led mission to protect civilians, as well as evolving events in the Middle-East and North Africa region.
Prime Ministers Harper and Cameron remain in close contact in order to ensure continued coordination.
The two leaders discussed that civilians in Libya are still under threat from the Gaddafi regime and reaffirmed their commitment to protect these civilians.
Gaddafi must leave power. The future of a free Libya should be decided by the Libyan people.
Finally, the two leaders discussed the global economy. Prime Minister Harper stressed the fact that the global economy remains fragile.
As we move into recovery - albeit a fragile one - it remains critical that G-20 countries continue to work together in order to ensure Strong, Sustainable and Balanced Growth.
