Ottawa, August 26, 2011 – Today, the Honourable Vic Toews, Canada’s Public Safety Minister, made the following statement regarding Hurricane Irene and its potential impact on Eastern Canada:
“The Government of Canada is closely monitoring Hurricane Irene through the Canadian Hurricane Centre, which is providing regular updates on the hurricane’s strength and path,” said Minister Toews. “Citizens in the potentially affected areas should follow the direction of local and provincial emergency first responders.”
“Public Safety Canada is working closely with our provincial counterparts. Should federal assistance be requested, we will work to provide that assistance without delay."
“I would like to take this opportunity to urge all Canadians to make a plan to see themselves through the first 72 hours of any type of emergency.
