The Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) will invest almost half a million dollars over three years to develop a comprehensive tourism strategy for Nunavut. With additional investments by the Government of Nunavut and Nunavut Tourism, the project has a total value of more then three quarters of a million dollars.
The Government of Nunavut's Department of Economic Development and Transportation (ED & T) will use the funding to consult with industry, Inuit organizations, and all levels of government on how best to develop the territory's tourism industry. Discussions will focus on tourism data based on an audit of existing tourism activities, services and assets across Nunavut. The project will also explore the possibility of creating a tourism training organization in Nunavut as well as a tourism economic impact study.
Following the consultations, ED &T will develop a comprehensive tourism strategy. The strategy will set a clear implementation plan to develop the tourism sector across Nunavut.
