The Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is providing $100,000 to the Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce (BRCC) for workshops that will strengthen and build capacity in the business community in Nunavut.
The BRCC will receive $35,000 to organize conference sessions during the annual Nunavut Trade Show this September. These sessions will bring together businesses, industry and governments to discuss topics that will include: benefitting from major development projects, government programs and services for businesses; and tips on how tourism can benefit your business.
An additional investment of $65,000 will be used by the BRCC to conduct industry sector workshops. The workshops will focus on the mining, fishing, tourism and arts and culture industries and will help communities identify which sectors are best suited for their development. Participants will also learn about establishing enterprises to take advantage of those sectors.
The Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce, located in Iqaluit, is a non-partisan organization established to foster, promote and improve business development in a responsible manner, and support its members through various benefits, partnerships, communications, advocacy, and other initiatives.
This project was made possible through funding from CanNor's Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) program which focuses on long-term economic growth, economic diversification, and capacity building in all three territories.
SINED is one of several economic development programs within CanNor. CanNor is responsible for coordinating and delivering Canada's economic development across the North, and for related policy development, research and advocacy.
