Miramichi, New Brunswick, September 1, 2011 — Tilly O’Neill-Gordon, Member of Parliament for Miramichi, on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, announced today that a contract for the provision of office space has been awarded for the first phase of the Centre of Expertise for the pay services project located in Miramichi, New Brunswick.
“The Government of Canada is pleased to award the contract for leased office space in the city of Miramichi,” said Ms. O’Neill-Gordon. “This space will house the first group of employees for the new Centre of Expertise—approximately 146 of the total 550 positions that Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced in August 2010.”
Once the office accommodations are ready for occupants, the new Centre of Expertise will lease office space in the mall for a period of four years. The anticipated occupancy date is March 2012.
“This is very good news for the region as it will bring jobs and stability,” added Ms. O’Neill-Gordon.
Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) launched a Request for Information in February 2011, seeking information about the possible leasing of office space of up to 3,200 useable square metres in Miramichi, for the first phase of the project. Following a fair, transparent and competitive lease acquisition process, PWGSC is awarding a four-year contract worth approximately $5.8 million to Dalfen’s Limited for leased space in the Miramichi Mall, located at 408 King George Highway.
Planning is currently underway by PWGSC to determine the overall accommodation solution for the Centre of Expertise’s full staff complement. The implementation plan and acquisition activities for the project will be completed in different phases over the next five years.
