Brockville, Ontario, September 22, 2011—People with disabilities will get work experience through the Government of Canada’s support for an employment project. Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.
“In today’s environment, it is more important than ever that all Canadians have the skills they need to participate and succeed in the job market,” said MP Brown. “By supporting this project, our government is helping Canadians with disabilities maximize their potential and independence.”
With assistance from the federal Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities, Career Services of Brockville will help 41 unemployed people acquire the skills they need to find lasting employment or become self-employed. The organization will deliver a series of Opportunities Fund (OF) interventions. These services will include Client Assessment and Case Management, Enhanced Employment Assistance Services, Wage Subsidy and Skills for Employment (training).
Career Services of Brockville will receive over $98,000 under the Community Coordinator component of the Opportunities Fund.

The Community Coordinator component of the Opportunities Fund is designed to support projects that help Canadians with disabilities develop the broad range of skills and work experience they need to participate in the job market. The component is available to eligible organizations that enter into agreements with eligible participants and employers in support of activities that further Opportunities Fund objectives.
The Opportunities Fund is part of the Government of Canada’s strategy for building the most educated, most competent and most flexible workforce in the world. The government highlighted its commitment to this strategy in Canada’s Economic Action Plan. One of the key elements of the Plan consists of increasing and improving opportunities available to Canadian workers through skills development.
