(No. 270 - September 20, 2011 - 8:15 p.m. ET) Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird issued the following statement regarding today’s explosion inAnkara:
“Like many Canadians, I was saddened to hear of the explosion in downtownAnkaratoday, which resulted in several deaths and numerous injuries.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those killed, as well as to the injured.
“Canadastands with the people ofTurkeyand their government as they seek further information.”
While there are no reports of Canadians injured, Canadian officials inOttawaandAnkaraare monitoring the situation.
