Paris, France, September 27, 2011—The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, participated in discussions at the G‑20 meeting in Paris, France, on September 26 and 27.
“A well-functioning labour market is one of the key drivers ofCanada’s low-tax plan for completing our economic recovery, creating jobs and ensuring long-term success,” said Minister Finley. “I was pleased to meet with my G‑20 colleagues and have the opportunity to exchange information on how our governments can continue to work together and create the best conditions for growth and employment.”
Highlighted in the address was the next phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, particularly its successful initiatives in skills development, training for immigrants and older workers, the promotion of post-secondary education and work-sharing programs. Minister Finley reaffirmed that this plan, backed by a strong mandate, will continue to be implemented to ensure that the Canadian labour market remains competitive in the ever-changing and often unstable global economy.
Following this year’s G‑20, Canada has also agreed to participate on a task force on employment which will provide input to the G‑20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ discussions in Mexico in 2012.
