Today, the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, Minister for Status of Women and Member of Parliament for Edmonton-Spruce Grove toured the improved University of Alberta Devonian Botanic Garden which received a federal investment of $150,000 from the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) to upgrade its brick pathways.
The completion of the Devonian Botanic Garden brick pathways provides visitors with enhanced opportunities to discover more of the Garden’s cultivated areas, made more areas universally accessible, and created long-term economic benefits by enabling local residents and tourists to visit and utilize the gardens for multiple functions, such as wedding ceremonies, family gatherings and corporate events.
“Our Government is proud to see the results and benefits of the pathway upgrades to the Devonian Botanic Garden,
” said Minister Rona Ambrose. “This investment has created jobs and provided long-term economic benefits to our community by attracting more event opportunities and increased tourism to this area.

“We feel fortunate to have delivered on the opportunities made possible by Western Economic Diversification Canada to improve access to the floral and botanic resources of the Devonian Botanic Garden,
” said Dr. Lee Foote, Director of the Devonian Botanic Garden. “People of all ages can now easily move through the spectacular herb gardens, heritage garden, trial beds, cactus beds and many more. This grant has facilitated learning and pleasure of the public and will for decades to come
.”
The CAF allocated $306 million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) has delivered the fund in the four western provinces.
