Saint Andrews , New Brunswick
Representatives of the governments of Canada and New Brunswick joined Saint Andrews residents today to officially open the Town’s improved wastewater treatment facility and welcome the important contribution it brings to the quality of services available to the families, residents and businesses of Saint Andrews.
John Williamson, Member of Parliament for New Brunswick Southwest; Curtis Malloch, MLA for Campobello-Charlotte; and Roger McNabb, Deputy Mayor of Saint Andrews, were on hand for the special event.
"Our number one priority is jobs and job creation, and we recognize that modern, reliable community infrastructure is important to the economic vitality of cities, towns and villages across Atlantic Canada," said MP Williamson. "Our Government’s support of this wastewater treatment facility has helped the Town of Saint Andrews improve its infrastructure, while generating local economic activity in Charlotte County during the construction phase of this project. The result is a major enhancement to critical infrastructure that serves the needs of families, individuals and business throughout this area."
"The improvements to the town's wastewater system will help protect the local environment for the residents of St- Andrews," said Malloch, on behalf of Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud. "Today's celebration clearly demonstrates that all three levels of government can work together."
This project involved the upgrade of the existing wastewater treatment facility that was built in the 1980s. The Town of Saint Andrews now has a modern plant capable of meeting their current and future treatment needs. In addition, the upgrades have reduced power consumption, which provide cost savings and lessen the impact on the natural environment.
"On behalf of the Council of Saint Andrews, we are certainly pleased with the project and the financial assistance given by the federal and provincial governments through the Building Canada Fund," said Mayor Craig. "For Saint Andrews, the upgrade of our waste water treatment facility was a high priority, and it will also allow us to continue with sustainable growth of dwelling and business for many years to come."
The Governments of Canada and New Brunswick have each contributed $976,324, for a total of $1,952,648. The Town of Saint Andrews supported the project with an investment of $976,326.
