EDMONTON, ALBERTA (September 26, 2011) - The Honourable John Duncan, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, released the following statement:
Tonight, we are here to pay tribute to your achievements as some of Alberta's most outstanding Aboriginal youth.
I would like to congratulate not only the recipients of this evening's awards, but also the nominees. You can be proud of your contributions and achievements in areas such as culture and heritage, academics, athletics, substance free lifestyles, and career and community leadership. What you have done and continue to do has a positive impact on all Canadians.
You are among the fastest growing population in our country - you represent the leaders of tomorrow, who will help shape the direction of your communities and our society. Your hard work, dedication and commitment to promote Aboriginal heritage will guide those who follow in your footsteps.
The Government of Canada is proud to support building a stronger future for you by providing education and training and helping each of you reach your goals, hopes and dreams.
