Brampton, Ontario, October 24, 2011 — Parm Gill, Member of Parliament for Brampton-Springdale, today joined the board of directors and staff of Catholic Family Services Peel-Dufferin (CFSPD) to celebrate the grand opening of a new, integrated social services centre in Brampton. The building was also unveiled as the Hon. William G. Davis Centre for Families in recognition of the 18th Premier of Ontario’s commitment to this specific project, to his hometown ofBrampton, and to social services in the province.
Centrally located, the 42,000 square foot Centre for Families will be the head office for the CFSPD, who has partnered with local health and social service agencies to offer a new model of integrated and highly effective service delivery.
“This building enables a number of social service agencies to come together under one roof to improve support for Brampton families,” said MP Gill, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. “Our Government is proud to invest in projects such as this one, which will provide lasting benefits and strengthen our community.”
The Centre for Families is home to Peel Region’s first and only Family Justice and Child Advocacy Centre, where people affected by domestic violence and abuse can access many of the services they need at a single stop. The Centre will house a number of complementary business and social services, serving all communities of the region. In total, 16 organizations (9 onsite and 7 offsite) will work collaboratively to deliver specialized help to people impacted by domestic violence and abuse.
“This integrated approach has led to earlier and more effective intervention, and a reduction in domestic-violence related homicides in many of the 80+ communities where Family Justice Centres operate worldwide,” said Shelina Jeshani, Family Justice and Child Advocacy Centre Manager. “We are so excited to bring these kinds of benefits to Peel Region.”
The Government of Canada is contributing half of the eligible project costs, up to $2.2 million, from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund. Catholic Family Services Peel-Dufferin has contributed the remaining funding. The total eligible cost of the project is $4.4 million.
Since March 2009, more than 2,000 key infrastructure projects acrossOntariohave received a total federal commitment of close to $1.5 billion under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund. The Infrastructure Stimulus Fund has provided funding to over 4,100 infrastructure projects across the country.
