The Honourable Steven Blaney Celebrates the Completion of Infrastructure Stimulus Fund Projects in Quebec
Lévis, Quebec, October 28 2011 – The Government of Canada is proud to recognize the successful conclusion of infrastructure projects acrossQuebec under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund (ISF), a key part ofCanada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Our government delivered timely and targeted funding that created jobs and boosted our regional economy here in Quebec,” said the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs. “ThroughCanada’s Economic Action Plan, the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund supported more 900 Infrastructure Stimulus Fund projects across theProvinceofQuebecthat will strengthen communities for years to come.”
ThroughCanada’s Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada has worked in partnership with provinces, territories and municipalities and other partners to deliver timely and targeted investment to create jobs and boost the economy.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan committed close to $16 billion to modernize a broad range of infrastructure including our roads, bridges, public transit, parks and water treatment facilities, and to support home ownership, help stimulate the housing sector and improve housing across Canada.
Through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund alone, close to $904 million was committed to 934 projects in communities across the Provinceof Quebec. In every corner of the province, jobs were created when the economy needed them most. Projects ranged from roads and highways to the construction of the new Mégantic Sports Centre, to the restoration of a railway station in Tring-Junction as a new municipal library, to the renovation and expansion of the Musée de la Mer in the Magdalen Islands, to numerous projects that enabled municipalities to restore or replace their water mains, sewers and storm sewers. Although the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund is now completed, the economic benefits of these ISF projects will last for years to come.
