Ottawa, Ontario, October 20, 2011...Canada’s Taxpayers’ Ombudsman, Mr. J. Paul Dubé today released his 2010-2011 Annual Report, which was tabled in Parliament on October 19, by the Minister of National Revenue, the Honourable Gail Shea.
“I am pleased with our accomplishments over the past year,” said Mr. Dubé. “Through resolving individual taxpayer complaints and investigating systemic issues, we are making a real difference in the lives of Canadians.”
The report outlines the activities of the Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman over the past year and illustrates how the Ombudsman and his staff are working to ensure Canadians receive the professional service and fair treatment they are entitled to from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
The Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman has assisted thousands of taxpayers with their complaints and enquiries, and brought about significant improvements in the way the CRA serves taxpayers and benefit recipients.
In the past year, the Ombudsman released two special reports, each identifying a specific systemic issue and making recommendations to the Minister of National Revenue on how the CRA could improve its service to, and treatment of, taxpayers. All recommendations contained in these reports were accepted by the Minister who directed the CRA to implement every one.
Mr. Dubé‘s commitment to building new relationships and strengthening existing ones with Canadians and upholding the service rights found in the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, remains as strong today as it did in his first year in office.
“More and more taxpayers are benefiting from an independent and impartial Ombudsman who helps resolve issues of service and fairness, and acts as an agent of positive change,” said Mr. Dubé.
