His Excellency will attend the Celebrating Inner-City Community Connections event, during which the University of Manitoba will present highlights of its Connecting to Kids Report, conducted by the faculties of Medicine, Social Work, and Kinesiology and Recreation Management. The report will demonstrate how world-class scholars, researchers and staff are working together to transform lives and ensure inner-city children and youth can reach their full potential.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Awards Ceremony
His Excellency will present Gold Awards to 25 young people from Winnipeg and the surrounding areas for their achievements in pursuing The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme. In his address, the Governor General will congratulate all recipients on their personal accomplishments and acknowledge their outstanding dedication to the cause.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a self-development program available to all young people between the ages of 14-25. The Award encourages youth to be active, to participate in new activities, and set and achieve goals in four different areas: Community Service, Skills Development, Physical Fitness, and Adventurous Journey. Gold Award participants must also complete a Residential Project consisting of voluntary service to a community for five consecutive days. To date, The Award program has motivated over 500 000 young people from Canada, and over seven million youth in 130 countries worldwide, to undertake a variety of voluntary and challenging activities.
