Granby, Quebec, October 25, 2011 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that the Festival international de la chanson de Granby has been granted $90,000 in non-repayable funding.
"The Government of Canada is proud to support the Festivalin its efforts to increase its visibility and enhance its tourism drawing power both here and abroad," said Minister Lebel.
Established in 1969, the Festival international de la chanson de Granby is a pioneer in the field of francophone music competitions and large-scale artistic events in Quebec and French-speaking Canada. With its attendance quadrupling in the past four years, the Festival is looking to consolidate this position by pursuing its commercialization efforts among francophone markets in Europe and in the rest of Canada. It also intends to use a portion of the funds to study the feasibility of developing new components that would help extend the duration of the event and further bolster attendance.
This financial assistance has been awarded through Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program.
