Rimouski, Quebec, October 12, 2011 – Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière–Chutes-de-la-Chaudière and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Works and Government Services, for Official Languages and for the Economic Development Agency for the Regions of Quebec, today announced, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, that the firm Gestion Loisir, Chasse, Pêche Inc. (GLCP) has been awarded $300,000 in repayable financial assistance to adapt new software and bring it to market.
“The Government of Canada proudly supports enterprises that, like Gestion Loisir, Chasse, Pêche Inc., focus on competitiveness and innovation, both key factors for a healthy economy,” said MPnbsp;Gourde.
A part of GLCP’s growth strategy, this two-year project aims to adapt to the Internet, and commercialize, a software suite used by controlled harvesting zones (ZECs), wildlife preserves, and outfitter and recreational tourism organizations. These applications are designed to facilitate the use of the online services provided to visitors. They will also meet the needs of organizations that cater to tourists, manage physical and wildlife resources or produce various statistical reports.
Awarded through Canada Economic Development’s Business and Regional Growth program, this financial assistance will go toward covering a portion of the salaries of the personnel responsible for the new software. This new product will open up new markets for the company, which should lead to increased sales. The proponents would like to see the tourism industry as a whole embrace this new application, thereby contributing to the promotion of the Bas-St-Laurent region.
