A diversified product offering and extended season will boost business at the Argyle Farmers’ Market, thanks to support from the Government of Canada.
“Our investment supports a viable, direct-marketing venue for local food producers in southwest Nova Scotia,” said Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova, on behalf of the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and La Francophonie. “Our government will continue taking action to help communities build upon their local strengths and to identify new opportunities to diversify local economies.”
The investment will enable the Municipality of the District of Argyle to proceed with infrastructure improvements to offer both vendors and patrons a superior market experience. Vendors will benefit from 2,400 square feet of additional space, electrical hook-ups and refrigeration to safely accommodate a more diverse range of products. Parking and accessibility will also be upgraded, allowing the Market—and the community—to welcome more visitors, more often.
“This project is in keeping with the Municipality’s commitment to support and showcase local business, and the Farmers’ Market has been identified as a strategic priority for our community,” said Aldric d’Entremont, Warden of the Municipality of the District of Argyle. “Today’s investment will allow us to build upon established community partnerships, providing direct benefits to farmers and small businesses throughout the region.”
The Government of Canada’s $34,370 Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) investment is in addition to the Municipality’s contribution of $11,640.
