Québec, Quebec, October 13, 2011 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that LeddarTech Inc. has been awarded $210,000 in repayable financial assistance. The firm will use this funding to commercialize on international markets the LeddarTM d-tec traffic management system that detects the presence of vehicles, bikes and pedestrians at traffic lights.
“This is one more example of the Government of Canada’s commitment to supporting small and medium-sized technological enterprises that, like LeddarTech, break into international markets and showcase Canada abroad,” said Minister Lebel.
Founded in September 2007, the firm made innovation the cornerstone of its development and set out to commercialize the LeddarTM (Light Emitting Diode Detection and Ranging) technology that makes it possible to accurately detect and locate objects with the help of light-emitting diodes.
The funding announced today has been awarded through the Business and Regional Growth program. In supporting LeddarTech, Canada Economic Development is contributing to the consolidation and growth of the applied technology sector, a priority area for the Québec region. This financial support comes on top of $145,000 awarded in 2008; then in its start-up phase, LeddarTech mainly used this funding for market research activities.
