Louiseville, Quebec, October 18, 2011 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that the Association touristique régionale (ATR) de la Mauricie is receiving a contribution of $101,206 in non-repayable funding that it will use to develop and implement, over the next two years, a tourism development master plan for the Regional County Municipality of Maskinongé.
“The Mauricie tourism association’s project will support the development of local tourism entrepreneurship, which will help further the economic diversification of the Maskinongé RCM,” said Minister Lebel.
The Mauricie ATR offers the regional tourism industry services related to commercialization, animation and collaboration in order to support the economic development of this sector. The association will oversee the work involved in developing the master plan which will allow Maskinongé RCM stakeholders to focus their efforts, in a concerted and coherent way, on the common tourism development issues most likely to increase the RCM’s appeal as a tourist attraction and promote its sustainable growth.
This contribution from Canada Economic Development will enable the Mauricie ATR to first identify, clarify and prioritize promising tourism initiatives so as to include them in the master plan and then hire a person to coordinate implementation of the plan.
The funding announced today has been granted through the Community Diversification program, an initiative whose objectives include supporting tourism development in Quebec’s regions.
